Well…I have 3 cameras again. I’m hopeless, seriously. I need help. G.A.S. is real and I have no cure, lol, but allow me to attempt to justify my purchase of the Fujifilm X-T2 to the gods of photography gear.

First off, I’ve always wanted to own an X-T2 again since the day I let my last one go. If you know my gear story by now you know the only reason I let that go was so I could put that money towards the X-H1. I still own the X-H1 and love it.

A few months ago I also picked up an X-T4 which has become my “A” camera for any video project I do, and my X-H1 is my “B” camera. I love these cameras for both video and photography. But I have many video projects I want to create over the next year or so and I need to make sure I take care of the cameras that are responsible for capturing that video. So I always found myself being overprotective of any camera that I was relying on as a video AND photo camera. I needed (wanted) a camera dedicated to my photography, an every day carry, a camera that would be on me or near me as much as humanly possible (besides my phone). Enter the X-T2.

Could this EDC camera have been anyone of the X-Series cameras from Fujifilm? Yes of course. I’ve experimented with many Fujifilm cameras including the X-E1, X-E2, and X-T20. What I discovered by trying all of those cameras is that, although those are great cameras and I enjoyed them, I prefer the the X-T1, X-T2, X-T3 and X-T4 style of cameras. Whenever I was using one of those other cameras I always wished they had a slightly better grip, or a multi-angle screen, or an ISO dial, among other features.

At some point while trying all those cameras I knew at some point I just need to return to the camera that started this Fujifilm journey for me, the Fujifilm X-T2.

I love many things about this camera and of course image quality is one of them. But since Fujifilm cameras with equal sensor generations produce identical images, image quality is the unique aspect of this camera. What makes this camera unique currently is the combination of features and quality for the price.

Here are just some of the key features you can get for around $650 on the used market: Weather sealing, 3-way tilting screen, 1/8000 mechanical shutter speed, dual card slots, ACROS Film Sim, ISO Dial, Joystick & D-pad.

To me, this line of cameras still feels as close to my favorite film SLRs as currently possible. I love the ISO & Shutter Speed dials. Combined with the aperture ring on the lenses I can use this in a very similar way as I used my Nikon F3 and the like. I love this, a lot. I also truly appreciate the build quality of the camera. It feels like it can take whatever I throw at it and is ready to go with me everywhere.

So for now, as I write this in April of 2022, the Fujifilm X-T2 is my every day carry camera, my main photographic tool. If someday I get something else to create my video projects with then my X-T4 could be promoted (or demoted depending on how you look at it) to my EDC photography camera. But for now it’s the X-T2.

I’m exited to own it again. I’m exited to spend more time using it and creating with it.
